What can people do to “Go Green” in their yards?

Landscape Design Like A Resort. Lots of people are, “going green” these days and I have been designing and installing lots of artificial turf, as well as putting greens. These are very popular and environmentally friendly, and of course, no water. There are super products on the market now and most of it looks incredibly lifelike. Cost fluctuates between $6-$7 per square foot depending on the turf chosen, and how much people are installing.

Can you tell us about your special Disney grass?

My grass was created for the folks at Disney World in Florida and I was the first person to have it outside the park in the country. Mine was installed in September of 2007. Before you do any front yard remodel, make sure it has been cleared by your HOA.

What do you love most about living in Ahwatukee?

The convenience of so many things within just a few square miles is one of the prime reason why I live here. There is absolutely everything you need or could want within 5 miles of my home. Ahwatukee is incredibly diverse and very friendly. I know so many people by name and face no matter where I go. A great place to come home to.

You recently worked on a special project with Kyrene de la Estrella, tell us about that.

The Kyrene de la Estrella PTO asked my company to design and build a reading garden in an unused space at the school. My wife Natalie has been teaching kindergarten there since it was opened in 1999. The garden was recently dedicated to the retiring principle, Sharon Wilcox in her honor as the first principle of the school.

What’s your favorite feature in your own backyard?

I don’t know if I have a favorite feature, but I’d rather say felling. The resort like feel gives a sense of relaxation and comfort like I am on vacation. After a busy day, there is nothing like going to the backyard for a nice and relaxing soak in the spa, listening to the sound of water feature, with the beautiful lighting, fireplace going several months of the year, even a round of golf just putting around in my own backyard. I call it my “great room” and it truly is the biggest room in the house – out of the house. It has more than double our useable space. We have been enjoying it for nearly 7 years and still going. A well thought out, artistic, and well executed landscape plan is a tremendous equity builder in a home and also gives years of enjoyment while you are staying there.

Fireplaces, water features, spa surrounds, hardscapes, pools, landscape, and more – you name it! Your yard can be so much more than just a place you let your dog out, or a great place for a storage shed. It can be your own min-oasis and the second most popular room in (or out) of your home (the kitchen being number one of course). So start thinking of your yard as a sanctuary of fun for the whole family because after all, if Curt builds it … they will come.
